NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in every living cell. It exists in oxidized (NAD+) and reduced (NADH) forms and is essential for over 500 enzymatic reactions in the body.
NAD+ levels decline due to increased consumption by CD38 (an NADase that increases with inflammation), reduced biosynthesis, and increased PARP activity from accumulated DNA damage.
NAD+ is the active coenzyme itself, while NMN and NR are precursors that the body converts into NAD+. Direct NAD+ supplementation bypasses the biosynthetic steps required for precursors.
